Add Drill Down to Maps
Replace the map definition files (of v3.12.2 or older) with the latest files available in download package while upgrading to v3.13.0.
Using the simple drill down method, you can specify custom URLs or JavaScript methods to be invoked for each entity or marker on your map. When you click on the respective entity, the map will invoke that method, or redirect to the specific URL. If it's a URL, you can configure whether to open the URL in the same page, a new window, a pop-up, or a frame.
You can use simple links with your maps in one of the following ways:

You can invoke JavaScript methods whenever you interact with entities or markers in your maps.
The code given below ensures that whenever you click on an entity, a pop up window opens, displaying a full map of the state you clicked on.

}Build LinkedCharts in maps
You can use LinkedCharts to insert reference to a new chart in the code, so that it opens whenever you click on a particular entity within a map. In these cases, you do not need to specify custom URLs or JavaScript methods to the link attribute. The new chart that opens is called dependent chart, and is a child of the parent chart.
Note that all the links originate from a parent chart. The data of the parent chart contains data for all descendant charts, also called the linked data. You can configure the descendant charts to either replace the parent chart with an option to drill back up to the parent, or open them in new dialogs or frames. You need to configure the link for this behavior, just the way shown in the previous section.
Connect one map to another using LinkedCharts
Here you can see how to configure a map so that another map opens whenever you click on an entity. Refer to the World population density map given below. If you click on the North America entity in this map, it will open up a US map showing population density by state.
Here's how you can build the map shown above:
Create a World population density map as shown here. Set the
linkattribute for the North America entity as"newchart-json-NA". Thenewchartmodifier ensures that thislinkopens a new chart instance, when you click it.Ensure that the link contains
newchartfollowed by a hyphen (-) and the data format for the new chart. If you want to use JSON data, set it tojson, whereas for XML data, set it toxml. If you use the data URL method, specifyxmlurlorjsonurlas its value.The rest of the value (after another hyphen) of the
linkattribute defines the data source. When you setjsonorxmlas the data format, the data is taken from a specific id of alinkeddataelement in the same JSON data. If you set it toxmlurlorjsonurl, the data is taken from the path you specify.Next, specify the complete data needed for the descendant charts in the
linkeddataobject of the parent chart. Each element oflinkeddatais an object with two properties -idandlinkedchart. You need to use theidproperty, to map data for each descendant chart with its parent chart. Note thatidshould be unique for each item.linkedchartattribute contains the full data for the specific descendant chart as string (JSON or XML).Finally, use
configurelinkbefore calling therendermethod, to set properties specific to the descendant chart. In this case, set thetypeof the chart tomaps/usaand configure theoverlayobject, which controls how the back button looks.

Connect a map to a chart using LinkedCharts
The section below shows how to set up the LinkedCharts feature, which opens up a chart related to a single entity on a map, whenever you click on that entity.
The US map shown above displays the functioning of a retail chain, which has distribution centers in California, Texas and North Carolina. The rest of the states receive their supplies from here, the details of each shipment and the average cost is shown in the connector.
Each drilled down chart shows the variation of average shipment cost and the daily shipments for states serviced by that specific distribution center.
Here's how you can build this map:
Create a US map and configure markers and connectors between states. Configure the
linkattribute for the entities which you want to use for drill down.Ensure that the link contains
newchartfollowed by a hyphen (-) and the data format for the new chart. If you want to use JSON data, set it tojson, whereas for XML data, set it toxml. If you use the data URL method, specifyxmlurlorjsonurlas its value.The rest of the value (after another hyphen) of the
linkattribute defines the data source. When you setjsonorxmlas the data format, the data is taken from a specific id of alinkeddataelement in the same JSON data. If you set it toxmlurlorjsonurl, the data is taken from the path you specify.Next, specify the complete data needed for the descendant charts in the
linkeddataobject of the parent chart. Each element oflinkeddatais an object with two properties -idandlinkedchart. You need to use theidproperty, to map data for each descendant chart with its parent chart. Note thatidshould be unique for each item.linkedchartattribute contains the full data for the specific descendant chart as string (JSON or XML).Finally, use
configurelinkbefore calling therendermethod, to set properties specific to the descendant chart. In this case, set thetypeof the chart tomscombidy2dand configure theoverlayobject, which controls how the back button looks.
